Please Welcome Our New Intern, Kirk Harrington Jr.

Kirk is a senior at Saint John’s University. He is studying communications, with a focus in public relations and philosophy. Born and raised in the suburbs of Minneapolis, Kirk takes great pride in his Minnesota roots (Midwest hospitality, Vikings football, etc.). He has three siblings, which he attributes his social and academic success to, as well as two loving parents. With a mother from South Dakota and a father from Florida, Kirk brings a uniquely diverse perspective to any given situation. Having lived in three different states and a different country, he utilizes this unique perspective by exemplifying the best of what he has learned throughout his journeys, while also learning from the negative aspects of those experiences.

One interesting characteristic of Mr. Harrington’s is that he is fluent in Spanish. As a communication major and a self-declared extrovert, this is a substantial asset for Kirk in his day-to-day life. This second language was acquired through diverse friends and studying abroad fall of 2017 in Chile, South America. With this card in his back pocket, Kirk looks forward to being an altruistically positive influence in the lives of all different types of people throughout the world. He is interested in helping people however he can both locally and internationally. After college, Kirk hopes to do service work in South America before finding the next employment opportunity that best suits his skill-set.

State’s Capital Investment/Bonding Bill
Dakota County Achieves Success!!

We are pleased to announce Governor Dayton has signed the Bonding bill which includes three very important projects. Dakota County Regional Chamber Board of Directors endorsed and supported these projects for the 2018 legislative session: Minnesota Zoo Asset Preservation - $6 million, The Safety and Mental Health Alternative Response Training (SMART Center) - $6.2 million, and Argenta Trail 70th Street - $6.1 million.

“We greatly appreciate the Legislature and Governor Dayton supporting our top legislative priority this year,” said Chair Kathleen A. Gaylord of the Dakota County Board of Commissioners. “The SMART Center will be a regional resource for our first responders, and we’re fortunate to have strong relationships with local and state partners in this important public safety project.”

“I'm grateful for the public-private partnership we have, and I hope that the State will continue investing in us to keep that partnership strong.  The $6 million investment the Legislature made this year will allow us to start on addressing the most critical asset preservation needs at the Zoo.  Like the Governor and the Legislature, our priority is on asset preservation, and as a 40-year old facility, we will require continued investment,” stated John Frowley, Director/President, Zoo/Foundation.

We would also like to thank all the Dakota County Legislative Delegation and the authors of the funding requests.
